History of
Conte's Fish
Market & Grill
We are Conte's Market &
Grill, an upscale
seafood restaurant as
well as the finest
quality retail fish
market in Fairfield
County.
The
Conte family has been in
the retail fish business
since 1894 and currently
owns one of the oldest
accounts at the
legendary Fulton Fish
Market in Manhattan.
Today, our fish is hand
selected at the Fulton
Fish Market by Ben
Conte, and is shipped
directly to us that same
day, thus guaranteeing
the freshest and best
fish available. As
described in The New
York Times, "If you
have to choose a guide
at the Fulton Fish
Market, the only guy to
follow is Ben Conte."
Ben's uncanny ability to
select the highest
quality fish has been
the hallmark of his
business and it is a
skill that his son,
Dean, carries on here in
Westport. Yes, our
prices are higher than
most of our competitors,
but we guarantee you
will not find better
seafood.
When we were deciding on
locations fo r our
venture, we sensed a
real need for a seafood
restaurant and high
quality retail fish
market here in Westport.
The town's coastal
location and inherent
sophistication made it
an ideal spot for our
concept. After a
thorough search, we
decided on our location
at 540 Riverside Avenue.
The former Porky Manero's space, with its
rich history as a
butcher shop and
restaurant proved to be
a perfect location for
our retail fish market
and seafood restaurant.
Extensive interior
renovations have created
a space that is
comfortable and
inviting. An elegant,
yet casual ambience
prevails and we hope the
people of Westport feel
comfortable coming to
Conte's for lunch,
dinner and for all their
seafood needs.
Since opening in early
July 2002, we've heard
many positive comments,
which we greatly
appreciate, and we've
worked hard to make the
necessary adjustments in
response to the
constructive criticism
that we've heard.
Feedback is always
welcome and we look
forward to hearing your
comments.
